Fisher of Men by P.A. O'Driscoll

Red, a grizzled road warrior bearing the scars of her past, has learned to put her own survival first as she wanders the shattered remains of the (formerly) United States of America, spending her days in search of nothing more than her next job and next meal. 

When a job guarding a riverboat on its journey across syrup-infused waters goes wrong, Red finds herself indebted to a Living Meat creature by the name of Chuck. Her unlikely rescuer is dead set on savings its best friend from the "shiny men" dwelling in the pyramids of Old Memphis, and Red finds herself (somewhat reluctantly) pulled along on Chuck's mission. But things are not as they appear and Red is going to need more than just her wits and a hand cannon  if she expects leave the lair of the Fisher of Men alive.
